Jean Claude is The New CEO of TAG Heuer

One of the world's most widespread luxury watch brands is TAG Heuer, whose recent history has been a bit unrestrained. A few days back, TAG Heuer CEO Stephane Linder marched down after being in the post for only about a year. Linder had swapped by long time TAG Heuer CEO Jean Christophe Biver. Biver good-naturedly left to transfer to another business of the LVMH group, as Bulgari's new CEO. Update of Stephane Linder's leaving was complemented with the declaration that watch industry legend Jean Biver would take his place as the acting CEO of TAG Heuer.

Jean Claude and TAG

Jean-Claude Biver first grew fame working at Omega. And then the watch brand Blancpain was the following company, which he sold for a large sum to the Swatch Group. Jean-Claude Biver then acquired the injured brand Hublot and brought it back from the edge of bankruptcy in the mid-2000s. A few years back, Jean-Claude Biver traded Hublot to LVMH for a little more than 300 million Euros. He continued to be the CEO of Hublot for a while before passing over the company to Ricardo Guadalupe. And more recently, he picked up a new role heading the watch division of LVMH. That role more or less contains the control Hublot, Zenith, and TAG Heuer. Well the company considers them to be more like "jewelry," such as Bulgari. But LVMH owns other businesses that produce multi-purpose watches as well, conferring to Jean-Claude Biver.

Moreover, TAG Heuer has a division devoted to produce "haute horlogerie". They are ultra-high end watches, such as the Monaco V4 Tourbillon, and a host of top notch ultra-precise chronographs. They are cool. But according to Jean-Claude Biver, TAG Heuer was behind its track, and was suffering as an outcome. While reducing most of the ultra-high end productions of the brand, TAG Heuer is now working on a smart watch that will be announced sometime during 2016. That will certainly be big news as TAG is the single major fine Swiss watch producer that is working on such a release.

Conclusion

In October of 2014, TAG Heuer was stated to be laying off workers and potentially restructuring. One major "cut" was the manufacture of their newly announced in-house made and designed Calibre CH80, which is an Automatic Chronograph movement. Talking personally with Jean-Claude Biver afterward the news, he clarified more or less of what was going on with TAG Heuer. And it’s obvious that it was time to get back to its roots. Over the last years or so, TAG Heuer had tried to climb from a brand selling $1,000 - $3,000 watches to a brand selling $3,000 - $5,000 watches. And now they are playing with their $8,000 watches.
